Pedestrian is dead after hit-and-run crash in downtown Spokane

Police say a vehicle hit a man in the area of 3rd and Wall then took off. This is the 4th fatal hit-and-run this summer.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Several roads in downtown Spokane are now open after Spokane Police Department (SPD) finished their investigation into a deadly hit-and-run Friday morning in the area of 3rd and Wall downtown.

Police say a vehicle hit a man while turning from Wall onto 3rd and then took off.

When medics arrived they began life-saving measures, but despite their attempts, the man died at the scene due to his injuries.

Detectives with SPD’s Major Crimes Unit are assisting with the investigation.

Spokane Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

This is the 4th fatal hit-and-run in Spokane county this summer. According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, 7,318 pedestrians have been killed by cars last year. That total is 5.4% less than 2022 but its still higher than pre-pandemic years.
