Spokane Police arrest suspect in deadly Minnehaha shooting investigation

According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), authorities arrested Brandon Kenny, 25, for two counts of first degree murder.

SPOKANE, Wash — Spokane Police arrested a suspect on Saturday in connection to the deaths of two people in the Minnehaha neighborhood on Friday, Dec. 8.

According to the Spokane Police Department (SPD), authorities arrested Brandon Kenny, 25, for two counts of first-degree murder. Police said they suspect Kenny of the shooting that led to two people dead in the area of Cleveland Avenue and Cuba Street.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified them as Kiara Morgan-Weiland, 23, and Colton Russell, 37. SPD said at this time it appears the suspect knew the victims and this wasn't a random act.

According to the Spokane Police Department, there were multiple gunshots heard near Cleveland Avenue and Cuba Street. At the scene, SPD officers found Russell dead in a car and Morgan-Weiland dead on a nearby road.

Kenny had six prior felony convictions, said SPD. They include criminal mischief with a deadly weapon, theft and burglary.

SPD is still investigating and said additional charges are possible.
