SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Parks and Recreation received a $100,000 grant to help fix 16 parks around the city.
The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) gave Spokane the grant as part of its first Local Parks Maintenance grant program. The city will use the money to fix broken playground equipment through 2024.
The city identified the playgrounds most in need of repairs as:
- A.M. Cannon
- B.A. Clark
- Corbin
- Dutch Jake’s
- Emerson
- Fairview
- Franklin
- Friendship
- Hill n’ Dale
- Kehoe
- Loma Vista
- Loren Kondo
- Minnehaha
- Mission
- Thornton Murphy
- Underhill
“This grant award affirms our need to improve neighborhood playgrounds, identified by the community as a tier one priority in our Master Plan,” said Garrett Jones, interim City administrator. “We continue to seek funding sources to meet those top needs, and hope to bring a proposed investment package for voters to consider in February that would fund additional neighborhood park investments in playgrounds, restrooms, sport courts, and safety.”
According to the city, repairing playgrounds will help extend their lifespan while more parks are replaced.
