LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Ryne Sandberg, a Spokane native and baseball legend, will receive the "Living Legend" award from the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory.

The museum announced that Sandberg will be honored at the museum on November 15.

“This recognition is incredibly meaningful to me,” said Sandberg. “Throughout my career, both on and off the field, I’ve faced challenges that tested my resilience and strength, and to be honored by Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory is a true privilege.”

Sandberg was born in Spokane in 1959. His baseball career is highlighted by his 15 seasons as a second baseman with the Chicago Cubs and one season with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Sandberg was selected to the All-Star team 10 times and earned 7 Silver Slugger awards and 9 Gold Glove awards throughout his career.

He was also inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.

Sandberg has also acted as a team manager and coach for the Cubs organization and the Philadelphia Phillies.

In January of 2024, Sandberg announced he began treatment for metastatic prostate cancer. He has since made a full recovery.

The Louisville museum says Sandberg’s triumph over adversity has made him an inspiration to fans who admire his perseverance as well as his stellar baseball career.

The official award ceremony will take place on November 15 at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory.

Additionally, to honor Sandberg, the museum has produced 100 special collector bats designed with Sandberg's iconic Cubs colors.

The collector bat will be autographed by Sandberg and costs $399.99 per bat. With each bat purchase, buyers will also receive 2 tickets to the invitation-only "Living Legend" award celebration on November 15.
