North Spokane gas leak prompts home evacuations, Woodridge Elementary shelter in place lifted

No injuries or additional damages were reported and firefighters have since cleared the scene.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Eight homes were evacuated and Woodridge Elementary School sheltered in place Tuesday afternoon after a gas line ruptured in North Spokane.

According to the Spokane Fire Department (SFD), a four-inch gas line near West Shawnee Avenue and North Woodridge Drive was struck while fiber optic work was being done. Students at Woodridge Elementary School were leaving for the day when the school was informed of the gas leak, prompting them to shelter in place.

No injuries or additional damages were reported and the gas line has been repaired.
