SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward ordered all flags at city facilities be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of former Spokane Mayor Jack Geraghty.
Geraghty served as Spokane's mayor from 1994-1997. He helped create Spokane's Neighborhood Council System and helped foster the public-private relationship in downtown Spokane. He also had a hand in the historic Expo '74 celebration in downtown Spokane nearly 50 years ago.
“Mayor Geraghty made a tremendous impact during his service to the City and his continued commitment to Spokane long after he left office,” Woodward said. “His reputation as a passionate community ambassador is his lasting legacy. We are sadden by his passing and celebrate his many gifts to Spokane.”
Flags will be at half-staff all day Wednesday alongside the Irish flag, as Geraghty was a third-generation Irish American.
