Spokane firefighters train in donated commercial building for real-world emergency prep

Some of the drills include laddering and ventilating a commercial roof structure, navigating low-visibility spaces and deploying hose lines.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane County Fire District 9 and Spokane Fire Department firefighters will be in downtown on Tuesday training in a building that was donated to the department.

According to the department, the training on Tuesday is an opportunity to use a commercial building and it is a chance to give the firefighters real-life preparation for emergencies. Some of the drills the departments will take part in include laddering and ventilating a commercial roof structure, navigating low-visibility spaces and deploying hose lines.

The departments will also perform victim searches in the large open spaces.

The training may cause street closures downtown on South Cowley Street between East Sprague and East First Avenue.

The building was donated to the department by Frontier Behavioral Health and is slated for demolition.
