SPOKANE, Wash. — UPDATE at 11:37 p.m. - The fire is now out and fire crews spent part of the evening mopping it  up.

According to Spokane Fire Department (SFD), the fire started around 7:55 p.m. and burned about a third of an acre.

It was located in an area between two housing developments.

According to SFD, their initial investigation showed the incident started in the area old car on the hillside with trails leading to it. Fire officials said a fire was there at the vehicle, though they said it's unclear who started it.

Fire crews quickly responded and put down the fire. SFD said two things worked in their favor in fighting the fire: the small amount of vegetation in the area and the wind coming to a stop.

Fire officials on scene said the fire came within 200 to 300 feet from nearby homes.
