SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Fire Department (SFD) says fireworks started three brush fires over the 4th of July weekend.
SFD said the three fires were investigated at East Diamond Avenue near North Regal Street near the North Spokane Corridor, Holy Names Court and West 10th Avenue near South Cannon Street in southwest Spokane. SFD said the West 10th Avenue fire spread to the outside of an apartment building.
SFD said the fires caused several thousand dollars in damages.
SFD said four deputy marshals and two patrol units from the Spokane Police Department were assigned to address the illegal use of fireworks in the City of Spokane on the night of 4th of July.
SFD said the patrols issued 25 civil infractions the night of 4th of July.
"The cooperation with SPD was crucial in supporting our Deputy Fire Marshals through education, safe responses, encouraging compliance, and assisting with record-keeping," the fire department said in a press release they sent Monday afternoon. "We thank the SPD and the community for helping us create a safe holiday for everyone!"
