SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Fire Department announced on Wednesday that the Washington State Fire Marshals Association has awarded Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention Lance Dahl the 2024 Washington State Fire Marshal of the Year.

The State Fire Marshals Association consists of 819 members from 137 fire agencies and only presents the annual award to one individual who demonstrates exceptional leadership, mentoring and adaptability in addressing the evolving challenges of fire prevention and community risk reduction.

SFD says Dahl's commitment to public safety has been a cornerstone of the Spokane community.

SFD recognizes Dahl's leadership and his proactive approach to wildfire risk reduction that includes the treatment of fuels on both city-owned and private properties.

SFD says Chief Dahl's efforts not only protect residents and businesses but also improve the safety of Spokane first responders during emergency operations.
