What in the world is LARPING?

Amtgard group meets every Saturday, rain or shine

SPOKANE, Wash. --- If you visit Manito Park on a Saturday afternoon, you may wonder why people are dressed in elaborate garbs acting out battle scenes.

This is called Live Action Roleplaying, or LARPING. Depending on who you ask, you might get slightly different definitions about what LARPING is. However, at the heart of it, it is a form of roleplaying where players act out their character. Depending on what LARPING group you are a part of, there are different types of battle games and quests.

The group at Manito Park holds classes to teach players how to make authentic looking gear and how to work together in a battle.

“We come out here and have War College where we learn how to do battle movements, lining up in formation, and actually taking on large groups of people…battle tactics,” said LARPING player, Markus Taylor.

The group at Manito Park meets every Saturday, rain or shine, at 12 p.m. They encourage everyone to come out and give it a try.

“Come up, show up, we have loaner gear,” said Taylor.
