Tree companies short handed after historic wind storm

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Tree companies in Spokane are trying to clean up debris and hundreds of trees before Wednesday's 60-mile per hour wind gusts.

Tree company owners said there are not enough crews to go around. They said they have been working around the clock and they are already backlogged until mid-February.

Ray McElfish Tree Specialist Owner, Shannon Sullivan said there are not enough crews across town. She said every tree company is swamped and getting more than 100 calls per day.

"The roots have been compromised with the high winds. Now we have them saturated with this rain and the little bit of snow that we had and so the roots are compromised and a nice big wind could push them over again," said Sullivan.

Sullivan said homeowners could help by cleaning up or securing any leftover debris they can before Wednesday.
