Study says Washington, Idaho among top states for inbound moves

Four Western states filled out the top 5: Oregon, Idaho, Nevada and Arizona.

ST. LOUIS – A study from a moving company indicates people chose Washington and Idaho as some of the top moving destinations of 2018.

United Van Lines out of St. Louis released its 42nd annual National Movers Study, which tracks customers’ state-to-state migration patterns.

Although Vermont’s population is among the smallest in the U.S., the New England state saw the highest percentage of inbound moves in 2018.

Four Western states filled out the top 5: Oregon, Idaho, Nevada and Arizona.

Idaho saw 62.4 percent inbound moves, according to the study. Washington was ranked No. 7 this year, with 58.8 percent inbound moves. Oregon, which saw 3,346 total moves, experienced the second highest percent nationally, with 63.8 percent inbound moves.

Montana was among the top ten states for outbound moves, according to the study.

The study found that Americans are relocating to western and southern parts of the U.S., including the Mountain West and Pacific West regions.
