SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A deputy with the Spokane Valley Police Department was injured after a suspected impaired driver slammed into his car on East Broadway Avenue Wednesday night.

According to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred at approximately 9:35 p.m. The deputy was responding to someone seriously injured in a hit-and-run collision. Then, deputies reported a car traveling east on Broadway toward two patrol cars on the west side of the scene.

The car continued before slamming into the patrol car with the deputy still inside, according to the sheriff's office. The impaired driver, identified as 63-year-old Raymond T. Jones, was reportedly traveling at 60 miles per hour prior to the crash.

SCSO said the deputy has been treated and released from the hospital.

Jones denied drinking alcohol when he was questioned, but deputies noted he displayed signs of intoxication, including poor balance. Police say a breath sample showed his blood alcohol content (BAC) level was at .19 and .17.

Jones was arrested for driving under the influence and intimidating a public servant. While being taken into custody, Jones repeatedly swore at deputies, even wishing death on the deputy when he found out he had hit a patrol car.

A review of Jones's criminal history revealed he had prior DUI arrests from over ten years ago. He was also found to be a convicted felon with prior second-degree malicious mischief and forgery charges.

The damage to the patrol car is estimated at around $35,000. Jones was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail.
