SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — Spokane Valley deputies and traffic unit investigators are investigating a crash that left a bicyclist dead near the Appleway Trail.
According to the Spokane Valley Police Department (SVPD), the crash happened around 4:55 a.m. on January 12. Initial information said the bicyclist was traveling east on the Appleway Trail and tried to cross Evergreen Road before being struck by a car. Emergency crews took the rider to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Deputies said the driver and passenger of the car cooperated with police at the scene. Traffic unit investigators said they are continuing to investigate due to the severity of the bicyclist's injuries. Initial information suggests the rider may not have stopped before entering the roadway or flashed signals before being hit.
Impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to investigators.
The Spokane Medical Examiner's Office will release the rider's name and cause and manner of death at a later time.
