Spokane utility customers now have 20 days to pay bills

Public Works and Utilities Spokesperson Marlene Feist said in a release that city staff reviewed billing policies of other public and private utilities to find ways to improve customer service.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane city council voted to give city utility customers with more time to pay monthly bills.

Utility customers will now have 20 days after the date on the bill. Customers previously had 10 days to pay.

“We have been working to make our billing processes more convenient for our customers,” said Scott Simmons, the City’s Public Works & Utilities Director. “The change to the bill due date is a first step. We also are working to roll out additional changes in the coming weeks, including changes to the City’s ebill system that would allow customers to set up automatic recurring electronic payments.”

Public Works and Utilities Spokesperson Marlene Feist said in a release that city staff reviewed billing policies of other public and private utilities to find ways to improve customer service. In 2018, the city implemented a new discount for seniors and disabled individuals who qualify for property tax exemptions.

The city’s utility bills include charges for water, wastewater, stormwater and curbside garbage collection. Customers can pay their bill online, by phone at 888-821-2101  and in person at city hall.
