SPOKANE, Wash — The Spokane Public Library will host a community discussion on drag queens following controversy over two upcoming drag queen story hours the library has planned in June.

A community panel surrounding the topic of drag queens will take place at the Downtown library on June 8 at 2:30 p.m. The panel will consist of experts and community members representing multiple perspectives on the topic.

The library regards the event as an opportunity to learn about and engage in a discussion on drag queens and related topics. As a rule of thumb, library staff encourages respectful, non-disruptive dissent at any of the library’s events and requests that all attendees abide by the Library’s code of conduct.

The Library’s drag queen story hours are scheduled for June 15 at the South Hill branch and June 22 at the Spokane Public Library on West Main Avenue.

The library’s Facebook page says the events will feature stories of identity and inclusion that celebrate “creativity with a craft.”
