SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department said they are receiving reports of a scam involving money owed to SPD.

According to police officials, victims are reporting they received a call telling them they failed to pay a bond and now have to pay an officer money to keep from going to jail.

The caller identified himself as a Lieutenant from SPD.

The suspect then went on to tell victims to get the money together and meet them at a location well away from the actual Public Safety Building.

Law enforcement officers never call people with warrants requesting payment to take care of their legal issues officials said.

SPD is requesting that anyone who receives a similar call or believes to be a victim of the scam call Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
