SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Spokane Mayor David Condon says he'll turn down a $7,000 raise in the proposed city budget that would have increased his pay to nearly $180,000 a year.
Condon defended the pay raise last week as a matter determined by the city charter. He changed his mind Wednesday under public pressure and City Council criticism.
Condon says it's an opportunity to discuss the cost of government and accountability.
