SPOKANE CO., Wash. – Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich expressed concern about the handling of Anthony Garver’s escape by the state of Washington.
“The state of Washington needs to figure out how to keep him from escaping. This cannot happen again,” said Knezovich on Friday night.
Sheriff Knezovich said that following this investigation, he will reach out and have a discussion with state legislation and the governor.
“I hope that this time, the Department of Corrections in the state of Washington finds a way to make sure that this dangerous criminal does not find a way to escape again,” said Knezovich.
Knezovich referenced the first time Garver escaped during a press conference Friday evening.
“Thank goodness, because of the good police work done today, there was not a loss of life like there was on the previous escape where he killed a young lady very brutally with a knife,” said Knezovich.
The Sheriff said he felt outstanding that none of his citizens were injured by Garver during this manhunt.
Knezvovich also referenced the escape and manhunt of a dangerous man who walked away from the fairgrounds last year.
“There seems to be a pattern here and the state of Washington needs to get a clue,” said Knezovich. “They need to make sure this doesn’t happen again because none of our citizens in this state should have to face this kind of activity.”
