SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane is home to one of the best boxers in the country.
Pat Ferguson, 24, recently qualified for the 2016 Olympic Trials after winning nationals in January.
It had been 51 years since a local fighter won Nationals, and a decade since someone from Spokane even won a fight at the competition.
Ferguson is in the heavyweight division, but said he has not been fighting long. He also said he never played any sports in high school.
That is what makes Ferguson so special, according to his coaches. In just two years, Ferguson has gone from relatively unknown fighter to someone who gets calls from around the world asking him to fight.
Ferguson, with a record of 10-1, is seeded first going into the Olympic Trials.
