SPOKANE, Wash.— Spokane Arts released concept photos of the new signature art piece to be featured in Riverfront Park.
Spokane Arts shared lead artist Meejin Yoon’s preliminary design concepts for the park’s signature art piece Wednesday.
Yoon said she hopes the piece will give the public a unique perspective of the park's landscape.
The photos were to give community members a sense of its size, scale, and how people might interact with the sculpture, according to Spokane Arts.
The sculpture is designed to be interactive, and the opportunities are endless: reading, picnics, poetry readings, live music, star gazing, and more, according to officials at Spokane Arts.
The steps inside the structure will fit 75 people.
Spokane Arts officials said Yoon spent time at the park during all seasons and spoke with many different people in the community to get a good idea of what would best work for the park.
The Step Well is still in its design phase.
The Spokane Park Board still needs to vote on the final design and whether the location behind the clock tower is the best spot.
Yoon continues to work with multiple local artists to display art in the park and around the Convention Center.
