Seattle native takes over historic mansion in Browne's Addition with new vision

Something old, something new....

The Roberts Mansion in Browne's Addition has a new owner and she is combining something old with something new.

The previous owner ran events out of the mansion for over 30 years before passing the torch.

On Saturday, Denise Fehler was able to watch her own son get married in the new place she calls home.

“The Roberts Mansion is a historic inn that we just fell in love with and we saw that we could do wonderful, wonderful weddings,” Fehler said.

The mansion has been around since 1889. It's a historic Spokane spot and Fehler wanted to keep some of that history while also modernizing the space.

“We just really updated it and put it into the 21st-century,” she said.

Fehler re-did the bedrooms, much of the interior and even added a bridal suite, all while keeping the mansion’s integrity.

“It's got a kind of a very shabby chic feel, but when you walk in you feel like you're at home,” Fehler added.

Fehler lived her entire life in Seattle, where she owned a bridal store and managed several properties.

“Seattle is just over populated, and Spokane is such a wonderful city that we just felt like it was a growing area and that it would be a good time to start a business here,” she said.

Fehler now lives on the third floor of the Roberts Mansion. She is living her dream as the owner of this bed and breakfast, and unique wedding and event venue.

“Some people work in a job and you go, 'I don't even want to go to work.’ Every day I love coming to work. It's a dream that has been fulfilled,” Fehler said.

“I’m at home, I'm finally at home and I am doing what I've always wanted to do, and I love every day getting up for work and what new challenges and what new people I'm going to meet,” she added.

Fehler said they have hosted five weddings at the mansion – not including her son's wedding – since she took over.

She said they also host birthdays, corporate parties, baby showers and many other events.
