SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. — A precautionary lockdown at Central Valley High School was lifted after a report of an alleged person with a gun in the area, according to the Central Valley School District.
The caller said a man was "open carrying" the gun and they did not know whether or not this was legal, according to Spokane County Sheriff's Deputy Mark Gregory. The caller said the man was walking toward her.
Spokane Valley Patrol and School Resource Deputies searched for a man carrying a gun but did not find him. There is no information that the man was on school property or intended to harm anyone, Gregory said.
The entire school and surrounding area were searched but the male was not found, according to Gregory.
While authorities found no threat, sheriff's office leaders said the caller did the right thing by reporting something they thought seemed unusual.
Citizens who are legally allowed to possess a firearm are allowed to “Open Carry” a handgun in public, including the sidewalk, streets or general area, but must remain off any school property.
