SCRAPS creates program to send shelter dogs on field trips

The Dog Meets World program pairs shelter dogs up with people to go on hikes, trips to a lake or any other pet friendly destination.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service created a program that sends shelter dogs out on field trips with members of the community.

The Dog Meets World program pairs shelter dogs up with people to go on hikes, trips to a lake or any other pet friendly destination.

SCRAPS leaders said Dog Meets World was created to help reduce kennel stress and provide shelter dogs with enrichment and increased visibility. They said the outings give them insight into the dogs’ personalities outside of the shelter environment.

Participants will be provided with everything they need for the field trips including, collars/harnesses, leashes, treats and water bowls.

The program launches in March. If you’re interested in participating, you’re asked to email SCRAPSRescue@spokanecounty.org.

The program also has an Amazon Wishlist if you’re interested in donating.
