NTSB report: Pilot of plane that crashed in Deer Park was on first flight

In a release by Moody Bible Institute, it could take up to a year or more to determine the probable cause of the crash.

DEER PARK, Wash.-- The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced Tuesday that a student pilot was flying the plane that crashed in Deer Park last month.

Two student pilots and an instructor from Moody Aviation died from the crash on July 13.

According to NTSB, it was the first flight for the student. The group took off from Felts Field Airport in Spokane around 9:55 a.m. on July 13 and by 10:21 a.m., the plane was missing from their radar.

Witnesses reported that the airplane was diving towards the terrain and they saw the wings departing the airplane at the same time.

According to NTSB, the wreckage was distributed over a 400-foot distance with the right and left wing located away from the main wreckage.

The victims of the crash were identified as Joochan (Austen) Lee, Diego Senn, and Andrew Trouten.
