New building looks to bring health and wellness to Downtown Spokane

Right now, the space next to Laser Quest is a vacant parking lot. But as early as this summer, construction will begin and turn it into a five-story building with a specific focus in mind.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A new mixed-use building is coming to Downtown Spokane.

The Pacific Building will be built on the lot adjacent to the armory building on Second Avenue.

Right now, the space next to Laser Quest is a vacant parking lot. But as early as this summer, construction will begin and turn it into a five-story building with a specific focus in mind.

"The last couple of years, my husband has been very sick and this community held us together and I am just grateful for that in this community and I'm grateful we're in a place where he's healthier, and we can start giving back and being more productive with this community," said landowner and Pilates instructor Amber Butler.

Butler owns the Precision Pilates studio across the street. She and her husband, Brian, have been eyeing the property for a few years now and are finally moving forward with turning the new building into a one stop shop for health and wellness.

"We just wanted to bring it all into one building so we could say yes, upstairs is where you go. That's always been out vision for my husband and I," Butler explained.

Butler said the fifth floor and fourth floor will be dedicated to about five units of condos on each floor. The second and third will be leased out for office spaces. The main floor will house retail shops including Butler's Pilates studio.

"We would like to have a chiropractor, a physical therapist, we would like to have mental health counselors. We've got message therapists that will be there. We want to have acupuncture," she said.

The plans are a work in progress, but their dream of making health and wellness more accessible to the community, along with housing too, just cleared a huge hurdle.

"We just want to provide a space where people can live affordable downtown and still have parking without breaking the bank," said Butler.
