Original Story:

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Washington State Patrol, along with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office, is investigating a double homicide at a home on South Michigan Street in Spokane Valley.

Authorities said the call came in 8:43 a.m. on Monday from a child inside the home where the killings happened located on 6th and South Michigan. The victims are believed to be brother and sister, according to authorities.

Preliminary investigation from deputies shows the brother owned the home, and the sister was staying there with him. The female victim was estranged from her boyfriend at the time, and deputies said the boyfriend showed up to the home and killed both her and her brother.

“The 7-year old said somebody came in and killed his mom and his uncle,” a law enforcement official said to dispatchers in audio from the initial moments of the scene obtained by KREM 2. “[The boy] is at the house, he is afraid to come out."

Officials said Monday morning they were searching for Gilberto Delgado, 44, in connection with the shooting. He is described as a Hispanic male, six feet tall , 155 pounds with brown eyes and a shaved head. They said he has the name "Brenda" tattooed on one of his forearms. He may be driving a newer, black Dodge Dart with dark tinted windows and red striping.

A child was in the home at the time and called 911, deputies said.

According to authorities the suspect in the killings is still at large. Officials are worried that the suspect may return to the scene, so they are expanding their crime scene. They said he is believed to be armed and considered dangerous.

Delgado was previously in jail for an Aggravated Assault charge in Power County Idaho, according to the Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) documents. He was released in October 2015 and was currently on parole, according to IDOC documents. His original sentence kept him in custody until October 2019, documents said.

Neighbors told KREM 2 they were shocked that a double homicide would occur in their very quiet neighborhood. Neighbors did not want to speak to KREM 2 on the record. Police and neighbors both said the woman and her son all moved into her brother’s house until she got back on her feet about a month ago.

Neighbors said the entire family did not know that much about the three and the family kept to themselves.

Police said the neighborhood is secluded so police are still asking neighbors if they saw anything suspicious that lead up to the shooting.

“We don't know if this was something pre-planned, we don't know if this was a spur-of the moment thing,” Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Craig Chamberlain said. “We don't have any clue and I don't know if we'll ever know any of those answers."

Deputies have asked that people avoid the scene while they investigate. Anyone with information about Delgado's whereabouts is asked to call 911.
