Homeowner reacts to car chase that ended outside her home

Two teens fled in their vehicle after robbing a man at gunpoint and he chased them until the teens crashed into a power pole on Hartson Ave. and fled the scene on foot.

SPOKANE, Wash.— A car chase that resulted from a drug-deal gone wrong ended in front of a residence on the lower South Hill Tuesday night.

Spokane Police said two teens robbed a man at gunpoint while meeting him to buy marijuana. They shot at the man multiple times and hit his vehicle several times. The teens fled in their vehicle afterward and the man chased them until the teens crashed into a power pole on Hartson Ave. and fled the scene on foot.

The pole they crashed into sits outside Annie Ditto’s home on the lower South Hill.

“It is scary—I have five kids and they’re outside a lot, especially in the summer time,” Ditto said. She told KREM 2 that her children witnessed the Honda crash into the power pole while looking out of an upstairs window.

Ditto also said rocks went flying when the teens crashed, putting a hole in one of her windows.

“We just felt like it was a big miracle that nobody got shot because there were guns involved. That nobody got hit in the head with a rock because obviously they were flying,” Ditto said.

The teens are charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree theft. Charges could be added as police continue investigating.

Avista crews replaced the power pole overnight and residents in the area said power returned around 3:30 a.m.
