SPOKANE, Wash. - According to The White Elephant Facebook page, the founder of The White Elephant stores, John Conley, has died at 90.
Officials for the sporting goods store wrote about Conley on Facebook Saturday.
"The reason there is, and never will be a bad day at the White Elephant, is due to his eternal commitment to build a business that welcomed all," officials for the store said on Facebook. "And encouraged enjoying time with family, and friends pursuing happiness in recreational activities."
The White Elephant website said Conley was born on May 4, 1927 and opened the first store when he was 19.
According to the Facebook post, The White Elephant will be closed July 31 to celebrate Conley's life.
