EWU police investigate sexual assault on campus

They said the victim was followed there from the University Recreation Center after the event "Rec-Splosion."

CHENEY, Wash. – Eastern Washington University Police warned students Monday to be alert after a sexual assault was reported. Bu Tuesday afternoon, authorities had arrested a suspect. 

Officials said the assault occurred in the lobby of Morrison Hall on 5th St. on Eastern Washington's campus. They said the victim was followed there from the University Recreation Center after the event "Rec-Splosion." Authorities said the victim was fondled.

Police said the suspect is a white male, approximately 5'6" tall, blond hair, facial hair and acne on his forehead. Officials said the suspect identified himself as "Matt." EWU later updated students online stating that the suspect had been arrested. 

Officials are urging members of the campus to take normal safety precautions when walking on campus like traveling with a friend and carrying a noisemaker or pepper spray.
