Jerry's Landing Resort prepares to reopen Memorial Day weekend.

ELK, Wash. -- Jerry's Landing Resort is reopening after storms forced it to close for part of the summer last year.

"We love this place," said owner Laurie Rasmussen after a storm in August of 2014. "We've been here for 13 years so we want to open up again."

And less than a year later, Rasmussen will open the doors of the resort on Eloika Lake this Memorial Day weekend.

Rasmussen was forced to close her resort after a series of storms brought down more than 50 trees in the 3.5 acre resort last summer. Trees fell on six RVs and the resort's oldest cabin.

Insurance did not cover the damage, and it cost the Rasmussen family $35,000 out of pocket. The family hauled dozens of trees themselves and got rid of 30 truckloads of wood chips. In addition to those expenses, the family business lost $20,000 in cancelled reservations.

After the storms last year, Rasmussen and her family said they were ready to rebuild, and vowed to bounce back.

Owners say this weekend will be a soft opening, but that they already have 40 reservations booked throughout the summer.
