SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has identified the deputy who shot a suspect in Spokane Valley.
Deputy Clay Hilton responded to a home on South Glenn Court on Monday morning for a reported suicidal man, according to officials. Authorities said when deputies arrived, the man was holding a pistol, refused multiple commands to drop the gun before Hilton opened fire. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
SCSO leaders said Hilton is a member of the K9 Unit with his partner K9 Bane and is assigned to the Spokane Valley Police Department. He was a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Reserve Deputy from 2002-2005 before he was hired in Idaho to start a fulltime career. He rejoined the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office as a Lateral Deputy in May 2011, according to SCSO leaders.
The SIRR Team’s investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
