Spokane Fire crews are responding to a fire in the area of East Sinto Avenue and North Ruby Street. The fire was reported at 3:15 a.m. Thursday.

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Eleven people safely escaped a house fire early Thursday morning. The fire was at a residence in the 100 block of E. Sinto Avenue.

Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said six adults and five children were inside the house at the time it caught fire. All 11 people were uninjured. The Red Cross assisted those who were inside.

"She tried to get a bucket of water and put it out, but the fire was just too much. So we just ran out of the house. Everyone is safe because of her. So thanks to Emily, it was really great of her," said resident Fina Sosa. "They're helping us get set up in a nice hotel and make sure we're all situated and giving us the things we need. They're very helpful. They're over there right now helping my grandmother."

Officials said neighbors had reported seeing smoke coming out from the residence.

The family said their four animals were also in the home. SCRAPS was called to the home to assist the animals.Family members believe their three cats escaped, but they have only seen one. They believe the other two ran away. A pet rat was killed.

Firefighters deemed the cause of the fire arson and said it was started in a bedroom.

Editor's Note: A previous report stated that there were nine animals, a family confirmed that there were four.
