SPOKANE, Wash. -- The Park Board approved a contractual agreement with the Berger Partnership for the design of the new Riverfront Park Thursday.
The $1.5 million dollar contract will secure the Berger Partnership for a full set of design and management services for all outdoor spaces and buildings within the park.
Berger Partnership representatives said they will now begin early design study work and management. They will complete a detailed assessment for the Riverfront Park Master Plan, the South Theme Stream Bridge and the South Meadow.
Spokane city representatives said they hope to host a public presentation and exhibition in early 2016.
The Design Steering Committee recommended the Berger Partnership to design Riverfront Park's new landscape on June 10.
The Berger Partnership is a Seattle based company working with local team representation. The said they have worked with Land Expressions, LLC along with various Spokane engineering firms.
The Berger Partnership team members said they want to use the new landscaping to tell the story of the park. In the past, they said they have used pieces of older buildings in new construction to preserve the history. They will look to showcase some of Spokane's history in the park's redesign.
