Cathy McMorris Rodgers wins reelection in Washington's 5th District

U.S. Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers has been reelected to Washignton's 5th District.

SPOKANE, Wash. — U.S. Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers has been reelected to Washington's 5th District.

Challenger Lisa Brown conceded to McMorris Rodgers Tuesday night. Brown said she called McMorris Rodgers and congratulated her.

McMorris Rodgers received 56 percent of the vote.

McMorris Rodgers issued a statement saying,

"Thank you for standing alongside me, Brian, our three kids and our wonderful family. I am incredibly proud and honored to serve you. And I look forward to keeping the momentum going and continuing to work hard to get results for the hardworking men and women in Eastern Washington.”

In the primary race the numbers were a little tighter. McMorris Rodgers had 48 percent of the votes – roughly 57,300 – while Brown had 47 percent of the votes – about 56,800.

In Spokane County, the results varied from the overall district votes. According to results published on the Washington Secretary of State’s website, Brown garnered 48.5 percent of the vote in Spokane County, while McMorris Rodgers received 46.7 percent of the vote.

McMorris Rodgers took the remaining seven counties – Columbia, Pend Oreille, Ferry, Walla Walla, Garfield, Asotin and Stevens counties.
