SPOKANE, Wash. – The bank robber who shot a customer at a North Spokane Wells Fargo back in 2016 was sentenced to 18 years in prison Wednesday.
Don Owens shot the customer who tried to stop him from robbing the bank on North Division on April 28, 2016. The victim survived his injuries.
Officials said Owens entered the bank shortly wearing a black ski mask and announced he was robbing the bank. They said he then ordered the bank customers to the ground and demanded money from the bank’s customer service representatives, who complied with his directions.
As he attempted to flee the bank, authorities said a customer moved to stop Owens and struggled with him. They said he produced a handgun and shot the customer twice. Owens then fled the bank leaving behind the black ski mask that the customer had pulled off Owens’ during the struggle.
Owens plead guilty to armed bank robbery and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence back in August.
