SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane County Deputies are trying to find the person who stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from a well-known Spokane developer.
Back in September 2015, up to $1 million in cash was taken from a safe inside Harlan Douglass’ home in Colbert. Court documents said the developer was out of the country at the time.
In a search warrant filed Thursday, deputies commented that the break-in appeared to be an inside job. The day after the burglary, court documents said deputies were called back to the home because a bag with a large amount of money was found on the property buried under pine needles. Douglass told deputies it was about half of the amount that was stolen.
Also, the warrant states that an employee of Douglass’, who had knowledge of the home, recently purchased a new $40,000 pick-up truck and boat. Deputies said the employee gave them an alibi but determined he was not truthful. Deputies are asking for another warrant to search the bank account records of the employee in question.
Douglass made headlines last April when he was arrested for slapping the opposing attorney in a lawsuit. He was then charged with assault.
