Spokane County to pay Costco more than $4M following 2017 agreement to build warehouse

The agreement said that Costco was responsible for not just developing the warehouse, but also the "construction of specific improvements."

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — Spokane County is being asked to reimburse Costco for the work they did to bring a warehouse to Spokane County.

Following an agreement made in 2017 between the two entities to build a warehouse in North Spokane, Costco is now asking the county to reimburse them for the construction they did to build the warehouse and cultivate the surrounding areas.

The two sides agreed in 2017 that if a Costco warehouse was made in North Spokane, the County would reimburse Costco $4,000,990 with no interest.

The agreement said that Costco was responsible for not just developing the warehouse, but also the "construction of specific improvements" around the North Spokane location.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated Spokane County would pay nearly $5 million plus interest. A county spokesperson clarified the payment was $4,000,990 without interest.
