On Sunday, KREM 2 dug into what measures are in place at the fair so families and visitors can enjoy a safe time.
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office said one teen suffered a minor injury. Fair security contained the incident quickly and the injured teen is expected to be OK.
Now in KREM 2's effort to bring you more context, we asked how fair organizers are ensuring it's a safe event for all visitors.
Saturday night at the Spokane County Fair got a bit heated between a group of teens. No one was severely injured, but the commotion made some families uneasy.
"We were just trying to back up and make sure, you know, because we could see, I was trying to keep the altercation in front of me and my family behind me, so we were basically just kind of backing up and making sure that they weren't coming around us," Shane Jordan, a witness, said.
Jordan said he saw two teens fighting and shot cell phone video after security arrived. "[I] tried to keep family behind me and fight in front of me," Jordan said.
The Spokane County Sheriff's Office confirmed a fight happened at the fair between a group of teens. The sheriff's spokesperson said one teen suffered a minor cut possibly from a knife.
KREM 2 asked fair organizers about safety measures in place.
There is no security screen upon entrance to the fair, but there is a security presence. The fair director said at any time, there are about 50 security personnel patrolling the area by foot or cart. Local law enforcement officers are on the grounds as well.
You'll also notice a handful of retired Spokane County Sheriff patrol cars stationed in and around the fairgrounds.
There are also mobile camera systems. They use cameras mounted on top to keep watch of the area they're stationed in. Serving as an additional set of eyes for law enforcement, the camera feeds are monitored when needed at the county's real-time crime center.
The commotion at the fair came as a surprise to Jordan and his family, but the safety measures in place helped contain it quickly.
Fair organizers encourage all visitors to say something if they see something.
