SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Board of Commissioners and the Spokane County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) are celebrating the grand opening of the new regional Law Enforcement Training Center.
The new center, located on the West Plains, is now open with a 21-lane arms range, video training simulators, a concrete tower for helicopter rescue training and SWAT repelling and K9 training.
Thursday's opening gave members of law enforcement, elected officials and military leaders the opportunity to tour the $41 million facility.
“The variety and flexibility of training and classes that will be provided at this facility will not only elevate the regional standards for law enforcement, it will also strengthen our relationship with Fairchild Air Force Base," Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels said.
ToniAnn Fisher, representing the Secretary of the Air Force, shared this project is being considered in other locations.
“The Air Force is hoping to repeat the success of the regional training center in other communities,” Fisher said.
Spokane County contributed a total of $26 million and the Air Force contributed $15 million.
