Spokane County burn ban starts July 2

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor.

SPOKANE, Spokane County — Fire marshals from Spokane Valley, City of Spokane, Cheney, Airway Heights, Deer Park and Spokane County have all enacted a burn restriction for Tuesday, July 2.

This is due to high temperatures in the forecast leading to higher fire danger.

According to fire officials, unauthorized open burning and recreational fires are restricted until this order is lifted or unless otherwise permitted by law enforcement or authorized agencies.

Here is a breakdown of the burn restriction:

  • All recreational fires are not allowed. This includes any outdoor fire without a chimney such as a backyard fire pit or campfire using chopped wood or charcoal.
  • All open burning is not allowed. This includes burning fields or yard waste.
  • Manufactured portable outdoor devices are still allowed, like fireplaces, barbeques and patio warmers.
  • Approved fuels are also still allowed like clean and dry seasoned firewood, charcoal, natural gas or propane gas
  • Designated campfires in parks and campgrounds may be allowed if approved by the proper agencies.

According to officials, violators can be charged with a misdemeanor.
