SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane City Council is expected to appoint its newest council member at Monday's meeting.
The vacant seat, representing position two for the second district, opened up after City Council President Betsy Wilkerson was elected to her position during last November's election.
17 people applied for the open seat. Out of those applicants, five received an interview for the position by the entire city council.
Here's a list of those who were interviewed:
- Alex Gibilisco | Gibilisco has served as Spokane's city equity director since 2020.
- Jamie Bartlett | Bartlett is the director of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center at Gonzaga.
- Katy Sheehan | Sheen has spent the past decade with the Community Building Foundation as its executive director.
- Lili Navarette | Navarette is the Washington State Commission on Hispanic Affairs community development officer.
- Shane Gronholz | Gronholz is the current affairs specialist for Spokane Public Library
A vote is expected during Monday's meeting to appoint the next city council member. Monday's session begins at 6:00 p.m.
Whoever is appointed will serve until the 2025 general election.
