Spokane's city council approved a budget for 2024 with some slight changes from one proposed by Mayor Nadine Woodward.

SPOKANE, Wash. — During Monday's legislative meeting, Spokane City Council voted in favor of appointing Barbara Liliana Navarrete Lorenzo as council's newest member.

Navarrete is the first Hispanic-American woman to hold a position on city council. She was picked amongst five candidates to represent District 2, Position 2, which was previously held by current council president Betsy Wilkerson.

"We're excited to welcome Lili to Spokane City Council," said Council President Betsy Wilkerson. "Her experience and dedication to the community will be invaluable.  I am proud to know that my seat is being occupied by someone who retains the same vigor and dedication to District 2 and, primarily, East Central.  Her passion is needed as we work to make Spokane a better place for all."

Navarrete’s appointment to this Council seat is in effect until November of 2025.
