Spokane city closures during Thanksgiving

Several city facilities, offices and attractions will be closed for the holiday and trash pickup will be delayed by a day.
The mayor is expected to touch on results from the community safety proposal, findings on the CORE pilot program and more.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane City Hall will be closed, along with other city facilities on Thursday, Nov. 28 and and Friday, Nov. 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanksgiving closures and cancellations include:  

  • Solid Waste Services will be a day late the week of Thanksgiving for residents whose garbage is normally picked up on Thursday and Friday. Due to the holiday, crews will complete Thursday rounds on Friday, Nov. 29, and Friday rounds on Saturday, Nov. 30. This is also the last week for Clean Green yard and food waste pickup. This optional service will soon include the first full weeks of January, February, and December starting in 2025. 
  • On-street parking meters and kiosks will not require payment on Thanksgiving Day. Parking rules including time limits still apply.
  • All Spokane Public Library locations will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29. 
  • The Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29. 
  • Spokane 311 employees will not be available on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29, for in-person, phone, or online customer service inquiries. People can access Spokane 311 online and messages will be responded to the next business day. 
  • Development Services Center employees will not be available on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29. 
  • The Waste-to-Energy Facility recycling and disposal site will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 28. The facility will be open during regular operating hours for the rest of the week.

Attractions in Riverfront Park will also be closed on Thanksgiving Day but open the rest of the week. Hours can be found on the City of Spokane website. 

Additionally, the Numerica Tree Lighting Celebration in Riverfront Park is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, with festivities from 4 p.m. to  7 p.m., coinciding with the Riverfront Market event from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
