Spokane businesses react to aftermath of Wednesday's snowstorm

Plenty of businesses felt the pressure when the snowfall hit the Inland Northwest Wednesday.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Wednesday's snowstorm left a lot of neighborhood businesses feeling a winter slow down Thursday, especially for businesses in areas that aren't plowed.

The snow is far from melting in the Hillyard neighborhood.

"We want them to get here safe,” said Wes Taylor, Bulldog's Famous BBQ and Brews restaurant kitchen manager.

Bulldog's Famous BBQ and Brews in the Hillyard District has seen its fair share of snow. Taylor is the restaurant's kitchen manager. It's in an area that city plows scarcely get to.

"I think the city should do with the resources they have, they could do a lot more,” Taylor said.

Taylor's restaurant is the only restaurant in the neighborhood. He says business is slow, but he hopes people can get to the restaurant safely with the plowed roads.

“It definitely helps business as far as getting people in here and they're not worried about trying to find the place with bad roads,” Taylor said.

The city announced its full city plow Wednesday afternoon.

“The approach to every storm is different,” Spokane Communications Manager Kirstin Davis said.

Davis with the City of Spokane said that each time the city does a full city plow it's never the same. Crews change the order of routes they travel depending on which neighborhoods were hit the worst.

"We try not to have, one neighborhood always be first or one neighborhood always be last," Davis said, "We try to swap it out a little bit so that we're sharing that around the area."

As plows began to make their way through the area, thanks to a loyal customer, the parking lot outside the restaurant was plowed early.

"It makes it easier for people to come in to see us,” Taylor said.
