Spokane International Airport to close primary runway, expects increased air traffic over South Hill

The primary runway will be closed and air traffic will be rerouted to fly over the South Hill area.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane International Airport announced that the primary runway will be closed for maintenance from July 22 to July 26.

During this closure, departing and arriving flights will use the secondary runway, which will result in a temporary increase in air traffic over residential areas.

South Hill residents may notice more planes flying over the area, but no cargo or commercial services will be impacted.

The runway maintenance includes removing rubber buildup from the runway, repainting service markings and servicing light sensors in order to maintain a safe operating environment.
