SPOKANE, Wash. — The Bermiss, Emerson, Garfield, Hillyard and Nevada Heights neighborhoods in Spokane are set to receive 100 new trees. The new trees are part of the SpoCanopy program through the City of Spokane Urban Forestry.

The newly planted trees will help ensure that all residents in every Spokane neighborhood receive and have access to trees and benefits they provide.

The trees will be planted between Oct. 17 though October 19 by The Lands Council staff, volunteers and the City of Spokane Urban Forestry assistance.

Extensive research was done by the Lands Council staff and volunteers to discover which neighborhoods throughout Spokane needed trees as well as which neighborhoods were willing to help them grow.

SpoCanopy says their goal is for every neighborhood in Spokane to have 30% canopy cover by 2030.
