Kootenai County officials address Spirit Lake police shooting

A press conference will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Spirit Lake City Hall, where Idaho law enforcement will address information released about the shooting.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Kootenai County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) announced Monday that Idaho law enforcement officials will hold a press conference on Thursday, Nov. 9 to address a police shooting that happened last week.

The press conference will be held at 6 p.m. at the Spirit Lake City Hall where Kootenai County Sheriff Robert Norris, Kootenai County Prosecutor Stanley Mortensen and Spirit Lake Mayor Jeremy Cowperthwaite will all discuss information released regarding the shooting.

The Spirit Lake Police Department responded to an apparent mental health crisis at an apartment at approximately 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. When police arrived, they encountered a woman and, at some point, an officer fired their weapon.

Police did not give any information regarding what happened leading up to the shooting.

A later update from KCSO said the woman was "found deceased in an apartment." It is unclear if the woman was shot by a police officer.
