Idaho man dies after refusing treatment at scene of car crash

At about 11:20 a.m., Skyler Sauer, 26, of Smelterville, Idaho was traveling eastbound on the freeway on 4th of July Pass in a blue 2009 Chevy Silverado. As Sauer was negotiating a curve, he failed to stay in his lane and struck the right barrier, according to authorities.

SHOSHONE COUNTY, Idaho — An Idaho man died after his car crashed on I-90 in Idaho and he refused treatment at the scene Tuesday.

At about 11:20 a.m., Skyler Sauer, 26, of Smelterville, Idaho was traveling eastbound on the freeway on 4th of July Pass in a blue 2009 Chevy Silverado. As Sauer was negotiating a curve, he failed to stay in his lane and struck the right barrier, according to authorities.

The truck continued to rotate and came to rest with its rear end on top of the barrier, according to Idaho State Police. Sauer was not wearing a seatbelt and refused medical treatment at the scene, authorities said.

Sauer left the scene in a personal vehicle and a short time later, he was found unresponsive at his home, according to ISP. He was transported to Shoshone Medical Center by ambulance where he was pronounced deceased, ISP said.

His death was determined to be a result of a pre-existing medical condition and not from injuries sustained in the crash, according to authorities.
